Leeds United have set their sights on VfB Stuttgart’s Nicolás González.

Sampdoria have been linked with the forward and Sampdorianews.net have published an exclusive on the situation.

It’s claimed the Serie A side have only carried out surveys for the Argentina international and haven’t taken any other steps for his signing.

Lazio were viewed as a suitor, but the option to join Rome based club has now cooled off after they shifted their focus on Manchester City’s David Silva.

According to the website, the 22-year-old is unlikely to make a switch to Italy this summer.

The Whites’ interest is discussed and it’s explained Marcelo Bielsa ‘highly appreciates’ his compatriot’s profile. Leeds, at the moment, is the ‘destination’ with the ‘greatest appeal’ for the player.

González has played a vital role in helping the German side return to the country’s top flight club competition. He scored 14 goals and registered three assists in 27 appearances in 2. Bundesliga.

The South American’s preferred position is on the left-wing, but he can also be used on the right wing and deployed as a centre forward.

Leeds largely used Jack Harrison on the left-wing last season, and on Monday, the English club confirmed the City owned player has returned to Elland Road on another loan spell.

It remains to be seen if Leeds will still consider making an approach for González, after completing Harrison’s transfer.
