The Spanish media are reporting Rodrigo Moreno has passed his medical to join Leeds United, and the deal should be complete soon.

According to claims from the Valencia regional sport media, the player is expected to travel to London later today before then continuing to Leeds.

Valencia have been going through serious financial difficulties having faced a perfect storm of money pressures. They were in a bad situation anyway, and then the Covid-19 crisis and the club’s failure to qualify for European football has made things even worse.

Dani Parejo was allowed to leave for free, despite being the club’s captain, and Ferran Torres was sold to Manchester City for a knockdown price. Vultures continued to circle, and Victor Orta spotted an opportunity for Leeds United.

Negotiations seem to have gone relatively smoothly, with the biggest issue being convincing the player, something which wasn’t as hard as some expected.

Orta, who accompanied Rodrigo during the medical and will fly to England with him, was questioned by the Spanish media outside the clinic.

The Leeds United transfer chief is clearly happy with the business, and has been quoted by Plaza Deportiva as saying: “He is the most expensive signing in our history. I want to thank the club, Rodrigo’s father and the player. They have trusted us from the beginning. We have ambition to grow and we must thank Valencia, they have behaved very good. Hopefully we finish the documentation. For us it is a strategic signing to stabilise ourselves in the Premier League.

“It was a fair negotiation. I have been in football for 16 years and it is one of the first times that I see the three parties very happy. We received a world-class player and Bielsa is very happy after knowing that it was possible to sign Rodrigo.”
