After several years of terrible transfer signings, Manchester United appear to have sorted themselves out, and Bruno Fernandes is the embodiment of that.
The Portuguese midfielder finally arrived at Old Trafford in January, and it’s fair to say that he’s made an immediate impact.
Starting with his debut in the 0-0 draw with Wolves, Manchester United have won four and drawn one, with Fernandes bagging two goals and three assists in those games and earning himself the Premier League Player of the Month Award as a result.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with fans and journalists alike in England happily singing his praises and declaring him a brilliant signing.
It’s not just in England where he’s been earning admiring glances, though, as AS have proven today.
In a piece headlined ‘Bruno Fernandes reactivates United’, the Spanish newspaper hail the Portuguese midfielder and his performances so far.
They explain he is ‘measured in screams and silences’, the first being the reaction he creates for United fans and the latter in reference to his finger to mouth gesture to Pep Guardiola in the recent win over Manchester City.
According to them, Fernandes’ signing has saved Ole Gunnar Solskjær, for whom ‘the doors of heaven’ opened when the midfielder completed the move.
Fernandes is looking like being one of United ‘best signings in recent years’ and is even helping them to forget about Paul Pogba, who he is ‘better than’ according to the newspaper.
They say that Manchester United were ‘dull, disconnected, (and) apathetic’ with the Frenchman in the team but that’s all been dispelled with the introduction of their January signing.
Fernandes, unlike Pogba, is a ‘motivator for the fans’ and also a player who can ‘encourage the rest of the team to raise their level’. Anthony Martial is the one they specifically name in regard to the latter.
So, all in all, Bruno Fernandes is proving to be a big hit for Manchester United, who are not only looking far better than they were less than two months ago but also seem to have found a way to get themselves out of the Pogba mess without major repercussions with one signing.
