Despite being theoretically recovered from his knee injury, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez couldn’t make it to the team for the Premier League clash against Southampton at the weekend.

The 31-year-old was supposed to be on the bench, but was left out at the last minute, and ended up watching the match from the stands.

Raul Jimenez now gave an interview to Mexican outlet TUDN, and among the many subjects they talked about, there was his physical situation and his concern about being completely fit before the World Cup in Qatar.

Regarding Wolves match against Southampton, the striker made it clear that the club had just taken ‘precautions’, and he should soon be back on the pitch.

“Well, they took precautions so that it wasn’t something more serious. I’m happy, excited that the World Cup is getting closer, but now at this moment it was decided not to play and it was for the best,” Jimenez told TUDN.

“[I’m] At a good time, in the preseason I’d been scoring goals, I had a knee injury, I stopped a bit, I came back when the Premier League was starting. I still need to be the best I can be, but I’m on the right track.”

Regarding his chances of being ready for the World Cup, he claims that he has the right mindset to avoid injuries and make it to the final squad.

“You always want to do your best for your club, in the end you have to keep showing yourself, you have to do the best you can to be in the final list. Out of the corner of your eye, the World Cup is just around the corner and it’s something that motivates more.

“In my case it’s not to get to the World Cup well, I take care of myself in different ways, but it’s not like I don’t go for a ball one hundred percent. When you take care of yourself in that way, then more injuries come and for those reasons you don’t go to the World Cup.”

Jimenez’s knee injury left him out of the first two games of the season, against Leeds United and Fulham. The striker had then taken part in the following matches, and this setback at the weekend is what worried many people, being one of the reasons why Wolves are chasing a new striker even after the end of the transfer window.
