Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has told the Turkish media he doesn’t want Cenk Tosun to leave the club, after reports the player is on the verge of a move to Everton.
Haber have reported on comments Gunes made in his press conference after tonight’s game against Osmanlispor, when he was quizzed about Tosun’s proposed move to Everton: “I do not want to lose players but in economic terms it will be decided by management, but my priority is that the players here can carry on and I can manage this team. I don’t think it’s right to talk about the transfer, but it’s something like that hasn’t come from me. I’m satisfied with my team, I do not want anybody to go.”
Tosun has been linked with Everton in recent months after the Premier League club held talks in Germany with his agent.
In the past few days the Toffees have stepped up their pursuit of Tosun, with reports today he will join the Premier League side next week for €25m, subject to a medical. As far as the Turkish media are concerned the deal is pretty much done, and Gunes surely knows that.
It’s also been suggested Tosun played his last game for Besiktas tonight, and after his side’s 4-1 victory the forward seemed to be saying his farewells to the Turkish side’s fans. Gunes watched on as Tosun approached the fans, with the manager looking to have an expression of pride.
The 26 year old has been Besiktas’ standout player in the Champions League this season, and it’s no wonder Gunes is keen to keep him in Istanbul.
