Sunderland allowed Fabio Borini to join AC Milan on a season-long loan deal in 2017 and his move was made permanent earlier in July.

Italian website Tutto Mercato Web claims the Rossoneri are evaluating opportunities to offload players in the mid-season transfer window and view the 27-year-old as ‘transferable’.

This is when Newcastle United’s name is mentioned in the report.

It’s claimed the Tyneside club’s manager, Rafael Benitez has ‘done a survey’ of the former Black Cats wideman for the Magpies in recent weeks. That means they’ve made initial contact to see the parameters of a deal.

However, the Serie A outfit have so far not received any offers from the English side.

The report mentions if an offer reaches the offices of San Siro for Borini, they are willing consider sanctioning his sale in January.

Whether Benitez will decide it’s the right idea, and then convince Newcastle to make an approach or not is to be seen.

This season, the winger has made 11 appearances in the all competitions and has only one goal and an assist to his name.
