Following the confirmation of João Ferreira’s transfer from Benfica to Watford, the Portuguese media now discusses the chances of the midfielder succeeding at his new club.
To talk about that, outlet Record invited Vitor Barbosa, who coached the player when he was still a teenager. The manager highlighted the qualities he’d already shown at that time, saying he used to play with older teammates.
“He is going to a very demanding league and he, as he is very demanding, will be successful,” Vitor Barbosa told Record.
“At that time, in physical terms, a year was not so noticeable, although João was one of the most powerful. He had a lot of resistance, determination and determination, he never gave up a lost ball.”
Ferreira’s former coach also left him a message about his move to Watford.
“Believe in yourself, because you have the quality for it. This is a competition that will be very good for you. With the ambition that is characteristic of you, you will exceed expectations.”
João Ferreira had been at Benfica since his years at academy, although he played more official matches while on loan at other clubs such as Vitória Guimarães and Rio Ave.
It was at the northern side that he’s been playing this season when he drew the attention from Watford.
It’s interesting that he wasn’t even a regular starter at the club, only getting 389 minutes played there, and somehow still got aimed by the Hornets, who announced his signing at the weekend.
According to reports from Portugal, Watford spent €3m to land him. He signed a four-year deal with the club, and now tries to prove himself in the Championship.
