Manchester United’s offer for Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp ‘came as a surprise’ but is an opportunity the player ‘simply has to accept’.
That’s according to BILD journalist Ulrika Sickenberger, who covers the move from United today as they eye up the German as a replacement for David de Gea.
Several reports in Germany have made it clear Trapp is a target for Manchester United, who are ready to pay him €10m a year to move to Old Trafford.
That’s an offer which is tempting the goalkeeper, who is said to have been convinced by United that he will be a regular under Erik ten Hag.
Sickenberger looks at it from the player’s perspective and explains that the offer ‘came as a surprise’ but now all involved are ‘pushing for a quick decision’ to be made.
That appeals to Trapp, even after his failed move to Paris Saint Germain, as United are also a ‘traditional club with a global appeal’, unlike the French giants.
The move would also allow him to play in the best league in the world, an opportunity that will ‘probably never come again’.
That is why Frankfurt shouldn’t put obstacles in his way and player ‘simply has to accept’ the offer.
For Frankfurt, the argument, presented by another of their journalists, Roland Palmert, is different as they would lose a key player and have to spend most of the money from his sale on replacing him.
It’s easy to see why they would therefore be hesitant.
For Trapp, though, the choice is an obvious one and that could push the Germans to accept the transfer, which BILD present as one he won’t be getting again at this stage of his career.
