Tottenham fans, let’s take you back to the summer of 2021, back when Antonio Conte wasn’t your manager, but Fabio Paratici was in charge of transfers.
Nuno Espírito Santo was the man in charge then, and one of the targets for Spurs to bolster the attack was Nicolas Gonzalez.
The Argentina international was at Stuttgart, and Tottenham had reportedly made an approach, mostly because Paratici was said to be a big fan.
The forward eventually went to Fiorentina, where he has performed adequately without setting the league alight.
He has 12 goals and nine assists in 48 games for the Serie A side, although four of those goals have come in the last nine fixtures.
That’s why his name is popping up a bit more often these days, and Gazzetta dello Sport reckon ‘those who esteemed him in the past will return to follow him’.
This would include Paratici, as Tottenham are mentioned earlier on in the article as one of the clubs who were ‘in his footsteps’ when he was at Stuttgart.
His current form isn’t the only thing that could help increase his status, as there’s hope he can shine in the World Cup in Qatar, as he is often a regular for his country, wit 21 caps to date.
While we can’t expect Fiorentina to let him go in January, the belief is that another year of good performances ‘could bring a great offer to Florence’ from interested clubs, among which we could find Tottenham if Paratici remains a big fan.
