Newcastle United are likely to be in the race for Napoli star Victor Osimhen this summer and must be considered as a ‘big club’.
That’s according to Italian sporting director Gianluca Nani, who believes the Magpies would have the economic power to match Napoli’s high demands.
Osimhen has developed into one of the hottest young strikers in Europe since joining Napoli from Lille in September 2020, scoring 25 goals in 55 games for them so far.
This season he has 15 goals and four assists in 25 games in all competitions, a number that hasn’t gone unnoticed around Europe.
The 23-year-old is earning attention from clubs at the highest level, particularly in the Premier League, where several sides, including Newcastle, have been named as suitors.
Indeed, they are very keen, and reports in January stated they had made a huge bid for him in the winter window.
The interest has continued from that point, with it even claimed yesterday they had sent an official to Italy to watch over the player and get the ball rolling on a potential deal.
They seem keen to make something happen, and Nani believes Newcastle cannot be overlooked should a race be started for Osimhen’s signature this summer.
“I can confirm that. Osimhen is a player they like,” Calciomercato.it report him saying.
“He knows how to do everything; he scores goals in every way. It’s normal that Osimhen appeals to this kind of club.
“Newcastle, at least from the economic point of view, must be considered a big club. Of course, there are Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United.
“Not many can afford Osimhen. I don’t know Napoli’s request, but they are the first to be aware.”
