Atletico Madrid clearly don’t want to see the back of Kieran Trippier this summer, and multiple reports from the Spanish sport media have published claims of that nature in recent months.

The England international has found a big fan in Diego Simeone, and the manager values the role Trippier played as Atletico won La Liga.

Therefore, the club won’t make it easy for the right-back to sign for Manchester United, even if it’s thought his family would be keen on a return to England.

However, there’s clearly some belief the move could happen, with Mundo Deportivo reporting Atletico have already identified a replacement. That man is Gonzalo Montiel, with the 24-year-old currently playing for River Plate in Argentina.

Mundo insist Atletico want €40m to release Trippier, and should Manchester United ‘open their chequebook’ then the Spanish champions would move to try and get a deal done for Montiel, not trusting the options they already have in the position.

So, according to the report, it’s all down to Manchester United, and Atletico Madrid are making sure they have a contingency plan in place.
