Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne is ‘playing football again’ despite Pep Guardiola and his ‘neurotic tactics’.
That’s according to journalist Henk Spaan, who has praised the Belgian following his recent performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal.
De Bruyne and his teammates secured a huge win over Mikel Arteta’s side earlier this week, running out 3-1 winners at the Emirates to put themselves back at the top of the Premier League table.
The Belgian star was crucial to the victory, opening the scoring in the 24th minute when he took advantage of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s mistake to lob the ball over Aaron Ramsdale and put his side in front.
That was the major positive of a high-level performance from De Bruyne, who was back to his imperious best to help Manchester City hit their previous levels in the game.
It’s seen plenty of praise for him after the game, including from Spaan, who believes De Bruyne has risen above his manager at Manchester City.
‘Ten Hag said the match between Manchester United and Barcelona reached the level of Arsenal-Manchester City,” he wrote on Het Parool.
‘I was glad I did see the latter. De Bruyne is playing football again as a cosmopolitan rather than a Belgian and may be on his way to the Golden Ball.
‘He is a footballer far above his coach and his neurotic tactics.’
