Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri made ‘a mistake’ with Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin and should have kept him at the club.
That’s according to former Juventus midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi, who believes that the decision to instead back Alex Sandro is one the Italian probably regrets.
Dragusin completed a €25m move to Tottenham this week after Spurs moved quickly to get him ahead of developing competition.
The defender had been earning a glowing reputation in Italy thanks to his performances for Genoa, where he was one of the stars of the show over the last year.
He initially started his career in Italy with Juventus, joining their U17s in 2018 and moving up the various ranks before being sent out on loan to Sampdoria, Salernitana and then Genoa in July 2022.
That moved proved to be a highly successful one and Juventus sold him in a permanent deal €9.7m in the summer, preferring to back the players they already had rather than bring the 21-year-old back into the fold.
That’s a decision they may now regret after he completed his move to Tottenham, at least according to Marocchi, who believe Allegri was wrong not to back the youngster.
“Allegri is good at reintroducing young players,” he said.
“Miretti had come in, then he was on the bench and now he’s been deployed again.
“A flaw? Dragusin had come through, but he was preferred to Alex Sandro who then only had one year left on his contract. That’s a mistake but he’s making up for it in a big way.”
