Ahead of the Napoli v Liverpool clash in the Champions League, few would have predicated a 4-1 win for the Serie A side.
That’s exactly what happened, however, with the Italians running away with three fully deserved points, leaving Jürgen Klopp scratching his head at how he can turn things around and get his Reds firing on all cylinders again.
While many are starting to wonder if his job is at risk at Anfield, Gazzetta dello Sport, analysing the first lot of Champions League games, don’t believe that is the case.
They state ‘we don’t believe Klopp is at risk’, but they believe that he didn’t ‘read the game played by Napoli and hasn’t been humble’.
The German manager stated after the game Liverpool might have to reinvent themselves, but that seems more reactionary than anything, as Gazzetta point out that he might not have realised he ‘had to renew his squad while everything was going well’.
As things stand, his crop of ‘young players and many substitutes are not up to par’, while Mohamed Salah, once on top of the world at Anfield, ‘no longer has the age for the sprints of a 20-something’.
As you can see, the performance against Napoli didn’t exactly leave anyone impressed, especially in Italy, and now Liverpool need to focus their attention on the upcoming game against Wolves.
