Following the Coronavirus crisis, Portuguese clubs are unlikely to make a lot of money with sales in the next transfer window, and will be waiting for other sources of income.

A way of making profit is waiting for the moves of their former players, so they can still get a percentage. This is the case of Sporting, as explained by newspaper O Jogo today.

The outlet lists many footballers whose transfers could help the Lions. One of them is William Carvalho, who’s recently been linked to Leicester City.

O Jogo writes that the midfielder is currently wanted by the Foxes, Inter Milan and Monaco. And he’s the former Sporting player who could give the biggest money to the Lisbon side.

The reason is that Carvalho rescinded his contract with Sporting following the attacks at the Alcochete Training Centre back in 2018, then when Real Betis found a deal to sign him, they guaranteed the Lions 25% from a future sale.

O Jogo writes that the Coronavirus crisis should make William a lot cheaper than he’d actually be, and set a price of €16m for him. That means Sporting could make €4m from a player who hasn’t belonged to them for a couple of years.

Now the Portuguese side expect Leicester City, Inter Milan or Monaco to go and get him from Betis.
