Earlier this week, we relayed news from Italy that AS Roma were still interested in signing Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
In fact, the Brazilian was seen as the ‘dream’ transfer to bolster José Mourinho’s midfield, but previous reports suggested any move would be rather expensive, such was the importance of the player under Dean Smith.
The big question now, however, is what will Steven Gerrard do with the squad at his disposal and will Luiz be as important in his plans as he was in the previous manager’s.
The answer to that last question is most likely yes, which is why Corriere dello Sport believe it will be ‘difficult’ for Roma to get within reach of the Brazil international.
The first reason is that the ‘price of the transfer is high’, with a €35m figure put forward, and the second is ‘the arrival of Gerrard at Aston Villa could have modified the club’s plans regarding the player’s transfer’.
We’ll have to wait and see, but the last thing we expect to do is for the Liverpool legend to gift one of his stars to José Mourinho, especially midway through the season.
