Anderlecht “have to sell” Burnley target Bart Verbruggen this summer to help balance the books at the club moving forwards.
That’s according to journalist Jan Hauspie, who says Vincent Kompany’s side may be given their shot at a player they’ve been targeting since last summer.
Burnley were keen to sign the goalkeeper throughout last summer’s window as Kompany reshaped his squad and brought in several players from his homeland.
They never managed to get a deal over the line but they have continued to be linked, with reports making it clear that it would be surprising if they didn’t make another bid if they are promoted to the Premier League as expected.
Verbruggen has also poured fuel on the fire by admitting he was flattered by the interest from Kompany and his team as well as stating that playing in England would be a dream for him.
That could now be on the cards, with Hauspie reporting that Anderlecht need to sell if someone like Burnley comes calling once again.
“There is only one reason why Anderlecht put Verbruggen in goal, which nobody saw coming. After all, they have to sell him next summer,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying to Café Constant.
“It is logical that they have to sell, because they are in danger of missing out on European football. The Conference League is not enough to raise revenue.
“So again there is no Champions League or Europa League and that is therefore the reason why Verbruggen has to be sold.
“Anderlecht has no money and needs €200-250m in the coming years to forge a title team again. Who is going to pay that? Coucke won’t do it and Vandenhaute can’t.”
