Leandro Trossard is at a crossroads for Arsenal and Belgium, having not established himself as key for either.

That’s according to former Belgian footballer Thomas Chatelle, via DH Net, who believes the Arsenal forward is now at a crossroads in his career.

29-year-old Trossard has been with Arsenal since January 2023 after making a €24m move from Brighton and Hove Albion.

He’s proven to be a vital member of Arsenal’s squad since, with 20 goals and 12 assists in 76 games to date despite not being a regular starter.

That’s continued a solid Premier League carer for the Belgian and a step up from his time at Brighton, where he managed 25 goals and 14 assists in 121 games.

While he was a key player for the Seagulls that has not often been the case at Arsenal, where the likes of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are ahead of him in the pecking order.

That’s a situation he’s accustomed to having also found himself constantly battling for a place with Belgium too, for whom he’s made 37 appearances since his debut in September 2020.

Establishing himself as a start there has also proven to be an issue, and Chatelle believes the forward now finds himself at a crossroads.

“In practice, our national team is not Arsenal,” he said in his column for the newspaper.

“The individuals surrounding Trossard in London do not have the same profile and especially the game developed by Mikel Arteta has nothing to do with that advocated by Tedesco.

“It should also be noted that Trossard might not even have played on Tuesday if the captain and playmaker Martin Odegaard had not been injured.

“Because the Limburger, despite his many decisive actions and his flashes of brilliance, still has not managed to establish himself definitively as a starter for these Gunners.

“A luxury joker for the convinced, a stopgap for the moderate and even a stopgap for his detractors, Trossard is at a crossroads in his magnificent career. At 29, he can still dream of moving on…”
