Earlier on Friday, we relayed news from DH in Belgium regarding Leander Dendoncker’s potential move to Everton, with the newspaper claiming the midfielder’s agent contacted the Toffees towards the end of the window.

The 22-year-old was very keen on a move away from Anderlecht, and on top of the Toffees, Manchester United were said to be interested.

After all, it makes a lot of sense, what with Michael Carrick most likely in the last year of his career, and a replacement will need to be bought next season.

Leander Dendoncker ticks a lot of the boxes, and Het Belang Van Limburg on Friday look at his current situation, forced to stay at Anderlecht until at least January.

However, the Belgian outlet look on the bright side of things, and are keen to let the young defensive midfielder know that all is not lost.

He’s still young, and a lot can happen in a year.

Letting the transfer speculation get to his head during the last few weeks of the window, Dendoncker now needs to focus on his football if he is to earn the move he so desperately wants, and Het Belang remind him that José Mourinho is watching him closely.

Manchester United were sent scouts regularly to watch the Belgian side last season, and while many, including Sport Witness, thought it might be for Youri Tielemans, it seems it was for his ex-partner.

A good season, and a spot in Roberto Martinez’s 2018 World Cup squad, and the world is his oyster.
