Wednesday saw a bit of agitation surrounding the future of Leroy Sané, as Sport Bild in Germany reported a five-year contract had been agreed between the winger and Bayern Munich.
That led to speculation a deal could be struck between Manchester City and the Bundesliga champions, but it very quickly became apparent both clubs had very different views on the situation.
SportBild stated Bayern had approached the Premier League side with a fee of around €40m, which was staunchly rejected, and City quickly let the press around Europe know how displeased they were.
We covered what they told AS, but reports popped up on the BBC and other outlets about their frustration at the Bavarian side’s antics.
That’s because City still rate Sané highly, regardless of whether or not he has one year left on his current deal, and they are not willing to let him go at a cut price.
That’s why the Bundesliga side ‘want to push the price down’.
Furthermore, the website report it’s actually the fault of Bayern players that Sané’s contractual situation is what it is today.
They claim that, around a year ago, the forward had decided to extend his contract at the Etihad, but ‘some Bayern players intervened and Sané was quickly won over by a move to Säbener Straße’.
Now, ‘there is no longer any question of an extension at City’ and ‘if the worst comes to the worst, Sané would be ready to move to Munich free of charge in 2021’.
Everyone has been warned, but we doubt it will come to that, and as FussballTransfers say, there will likely be ‘many rounds of negotiations’ between the two clubs in months to come.
