For the first time, we’ve got some sort of confirmation from Belgium that Toby Alderweireld will likely leave in the summer.
The news comes from DH, who look at the situation of 11 Belgian players who could need a change of air at the end of the season, and they, of course, include the Tottenham defender.
Wanting a new contract, the former Southampton centre-back is asking for around €60k/week more than Daniel Levy is prepared to give him, and that’s causing ‘too much bickering’.
DH now say that, barring a last minute U-turn, Alderweireld will not renew his contract at Tottenham, meaning an exit is nearly inevitable.
As revealed by the Telegraph, which DH confirm, the fee set by the club is €50m, and there’s a few clubs interested, namely Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
At that price, in today’s market, the Belgian defender would be considered a bargain, especially as he enters his peak years as a central defender.
After the rumours this week, @thcoast explains why signing Toby Alderweireld makes so much sense for PSG, perhaps too much sense.#thfc #psg https://t.co/keiSic6OTC
