Barcelona are interested in bringing Thiago back to the club from Liverpool, with his move to Anfield now considered a ‘mistake’.
That’s according to Bild journalist Christian Falk, who says trying to get the Spaniard out of Anfield would be ‘worth it’ for new Barcelona boss Xavi.
Recent reports have indicated that the Spaniard is keen to bring Thiago back to the club from Liverpool as he sets about reshaping the side he inherited from Ronald Koeman.
Having players in the side with the Barcelona DNA is reportedly a big priority for him and club president Joan Laporta, and Thiago, who was raised in La Masia, would fit the bill perfectly.
Thiago was supposed to be the missing piece of the jigsaw for the Reds but has failed to match the high expectations put on him, with several injuries playing their part.
It’s that which has fuelled some of the rumours about a move to Barcelona and Falk believes there is something in it.
“There we have our first true,” he told Bild.
“You really have to say yes, he fits perfectly, and if he hadn’t had Xavi or Iniesta in front of him as players in the past, he wouldn’t have gone to Bayern.
“He is a player who is made for this team and has been trained there. The question, of course, is whether they can afford him.
“The transfer fee from Bayern was €22m, but I think that will now be feasible, even for Barcelona.
“With Liverpool, you have to say quite clearly it’s a mistake and trying to get him is worth it.”
