Earlier on Tuesday we covered claims from Mundo Deportivo that Denis Suarez’s transfer to Arsenal is expected to be completed ‘shortly’.

The potential transfer has now been reported on for weeks, after the Spaniard seemed to decide he’d like to play for Arsenal and made efforts to get the transfer sorted out.

Barcelona have been as helpful as possible, with the club initially wanting a straight transfer in the winter market, but then agreeing to a loan, and then seemingly further bending to allow Arsenal the option of a summer permanent transfer rather than a clause making one mandatory.

Suarez had decided to leave Barcelona after earlier believing he’d stay until the end of the season. Manager Ernesto Valverde choosing others ahead of him had sent a message there wasn’t much hope, so things changed as the window opened.

Valverde has been speaking in a press conference on Tuesday and when quizzed on transfers, he said (quoted by Sport): “I guess nobody will arrive, and in the exits, there could be Denis’, but we’ll see.”

Managers don’t usually even mention a player potentially going unless there’s a very good chance of it happening.
