As Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo today writes about some of Barcelona’s targets in the summer market, Arsenal are named as the ‘danger’ in the competition for one of them.

We’re talking about Mikel Merino, the Real Sociedad midfielder whose contract with the La Liga side expires next year.

The player is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €50m, but that situation could result in a cheaper move, and that’s why Barcelona are so interested.

And even though the Camp Nou side are said to be ‘calm’ about the chase, there’s this concern about Arsenal being the competitors to sign him.

Merino already has some experience abroad, as he played in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund and in the Premier League for Newcastle United until returning to Spain to join Real Sociedad.

The great couple of years he’s been having for the La Liga side has been making him a very wanted man in the market, and his contract situation may be the big factor for a summer exit.

It’s now up to Arsenal and Barcelona to start placing the bids, even though the midfielder is currently busy playing the Euros for Spain.
