Thursday evening saw Ansu Fati and his family have dinner with Jorge Mendes, report Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan newspaper say the group met at Via Veneto restaurant to talk about the player’s future. Fati’s contract expires at the end of the current season, with Barcelona having the option to extend it by a further two years.
Neither side are looking for that option to be used, and instead it’s expected a new agreement will be found between the parties involved. According to Mundo, Mendes explained to Fati, and the player’s family, that Barcelona think a great deal of him, but can’t give him a big contract now due to the club’s financial situation.
Therefore, a new deal would see his salary start off relatively low and then increase each season, as he develops and as, hopefully, Barcelona’s financial situation improves.
Footballer director Mateu Alemany later turned up to greet the group, and whilst negotiations aren’t yet formal, everything is thought to be going smoothly.
Ansu Fati and his family understand Barca’s situation, and it doesn’t seem like Mendes is rocking the boat too much. The agent has been told by the player that his priority is staying at the Camp Nou.
