Barcelona are close to signing Santos wonderkid Taílson, according to reports from the Catalan media this Wednesday.

Sport says that now the 20-year-old is a free agent, Barça will only be paying the Brazilian side compensation of €350k to get the player.

Taílson is still to make his professional debut. He’s caught Jorge Sampaoli’s attention in training sessions and was promoted to the first team, but due to his contract situation he was never used.

Sport claims that Barcelona have been interested in the player since the Copa São Paulo in January, just like other European sides. Now the Catalan club are ‘one step’ from getting the signing.

But this is a story which may drag on. Because although Sport ignore it, some reports from Brazil say Santos are confident the player still belongs to the club.

The Brazilian side had the priority to give him his first professional contract, and they believe he’s tied to the club until 2021, as reported by Gazeta Esportiva in May.

It’s said his staff is not happy with the salary he would have at Santos, and that’s why there are talks for a new deal. Recently speaking to Lance, Santos president José Carlos Peres said he believes the contract renewal is ‘well underway’.

So let’s see how this story develops for Barcelona in the next few days.
