As Barcelona’s transfer window has been a mix of unexpected and obvious moves, it really isn’t a shock to see them being linked to Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin at this stage of the market.
It’s Catalan outlet Sport who today writes that given the club’s urge to reinforce the right-back position and the difficulty to land their top targets, the Gunners’ player became an alternative.
Bellerin is called a ‘plan B’ who is ‘being considered’ right now. He left Barcelona for Arsenal back in 2011, and could return to the Camp Nou in a different situation.
Sport points out that Real Betis, who had him on loan last season, have problems with Financial Fair Play and struggle to get him back. And since there’s only one year left on his contract with the Gunners, the London side could give him ‘a letter of freedom’ to avoid paying his salary.
It’s recalled that Barcelona already tried to take the player from Arsenal last summer, with the operation being blocked by former coach Ronald Koeman. Now as Bellerin continues in their ‘orbit’, a new meeting with the presence of Mateu Alemany and Xavi is expected ‘in the next few hours’ to ‘study the situation’ of the 27-year-old.
