There was a time when those in charge at Barcelona sent out messages to make it known that any player who left the club as a youngster would not be brought back in the future.

Cesc Fabregas’ return from Arsenal had been costly, and some didn’t feel it worked out well. With a growing anger over youngsters leaving La Masia for clubs outside Spain, a line was drawn in the sand.

That’s largely been forgotten about now, and Eric Garcia’s return from Manchester City, albeit on a free transfer, is the prime example of the situation.

Friday’s edition of AS suggests more could be on the way.

‘Operation Return’ has seen Adama Traore mentioned in recent days, with the Wolves player flirting over a switch to Barcelona.

AS cover that possibility and also bring forward Alex Grimaldo as someone who is under consideration.

The fullback left Barcelona for Benfica in 2016 and after struggling with a string of injuries he’s finally been fit over a prolonged period and is impressing people.

AS state Benfica rate the player at €20m, and Grimaldo would see Barca as one of his preferences.
