Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo have conducted a vote to see who Barcelona fans would prefer as their next manager. Jurgen Klopp was dragged into the running on Thursday, with it seeming like he was there to make up the numbers, but the Liverpool manager is certainly popular with fans of the club.

Despite Ronald Koeman being a Barcelona hero, scoring the only goal of the game as the club won their first European Cup 25 years ago, the Everton manager isn’t a popular choice among those who voted.

With more than 16,000 votes so far the runaway favourite is Jorge Sampaoli, current manager of Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Sevilla. He’s polled over 50% of the vote, and in second place is not Athletic Club Bilbao coach Ernesto Vervalde, but Liverpool’s Klopp with a very respectable 20%.

Trailing behind others is Koeman, with only 2.5% of those to vote saying they want the Everton manager to take over at Barcelona.

The fondness for Klopp dates back to the manager’s time with Borussia Dortmund, and some Barcelona fans feel the Liverpool manager could replicate that magic. Everton fans will probably be quite content there’s not a huge clamour for Koeman to get the job.
