On May 17th, we covered a slant from the Catalan media explaining why Barcelona shouldn’t sign Antoine Griezmann in the summer window, a year after he turned down an opportunity to join them.

‘No’ is splashed on the front page of Sport and further details suggest the dressing room ‘says no to Griezmann’.

Within the story it’s explained the dressing room have never sent a message to president Josep Maria Bartomeu, but it’s different in the case of the France international.

They have sent a clear message to the club’s leaders that they ‘do not want Griezmann to come’.

The Catalan newspaper states there is no single reason why the Camp Nou dressing room has taken this step forward.

It’s claimed that his decision to turn down Barcelona didn’t go down well, especially after several players had opened their arms for him to join the Blaugrana.

The World Cup winner announced via a documentary, ‘La Decision’, that he would be staying with Atletico, and Sport states the attacker’s behaviour ‘was assumed as a disregard for Barça as an institution and for themselves as teammates’.

It’s further added that Ernesto Valverde’s men believe a player who acts in this manner (which was not only derogatory towards Barcelona, but also to Atletico) does not deserve to wear the Barca shirt.

Reports started circulating on Thursday that Lionel Messi has opened the door for Griezmann star to make a switch to the Camp Nou, but it’s now claimed the Argentine has made it clear to his teammates that he hasn’t expressed anything in that way.

Last summer, the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez and others had publicly welcomed the 28-year-old to join them at Barcelona, but this time he’s been met with total silence from the Barcelona players.

The dressing room is against the Atletico striker’s signing not just for emotional reasons, but for sporting reasons as well. They believe Griezmann’s profile is not what the club needs for next season.

In addition to this, the Frenchman’s signing would also send a wrong signal to the youngsters, especially after Griezmann played ‘cat and mouse’ with Barcelona in 2018.

With Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain confirming they have no intention in signing him and now the dressing room urging Barca not to sign him, things may be complicated for Griezmann as he has announced his decision to leave Atletico in the summer.
