Yesterday we brought you an update that stated Manchester United had turned their attention to Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti this week.

The report, from Le10Sport, stated they were ready to offer €50m for the Frenchman as they looked at alternatives options to Harry Maguire.

Well, it seems that idea was unfounded as Sport have covered the issue today and say that there is no such interest. In fact, Barcelona are yet to receive an offer for Umtiti this summer.

The newspaper reports Manchester United did ask about the centre back earlier in the summer while they were also enquiring about Ivan Rakitic. However, while they’ve maintained an interest in the Croatian, they’ve moved away from Umtiti.

Barcelona are working on the presumption that he’ll be at the Nou Camp next summer, and it’s explained there’s a ‘certainty’ he’ll be a Barca player beyond this summer. Only a ‘millionaire’ offer would change that stance.

That price is presumably €60m, which is his release clause, and United could match that considering the price they’re seemingly set to pay for Harry Maguire. It seems the reports of their interest were wide of the mark on this occasion, though.
