Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach will all be very difficult opponents, with Celtic fans no doubt looking forward to the away match in Spain.

The Spanish media seem generally positive toward Celtic, with memories going back to some fascinating matches against Barcelona in recent years. Celtic are considered in Spain to be a grand old European club, and there’s much respect towards the club generally.

When Rangers were promoted to the Scottish Premiership last season, it was big news in Spain. The Glasgow derbies between Celtic and Rangers, at both Celtic Park and Ibrox, are something which was missed around the world, so the return has helped the Scottish Premiership get a little more coverage.

There’s some excitement about the upcoming Barcelona games against Celtic, but the Catalan media still believe it should be straightforward for Barcelona.

The only thing which could cause problems for Barca, says Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, is the fight among the Celtic team. Being quite blunt, Mundo Deportivo say: ‘The defensive work and sacrifice for the team is the linchpin of a team trying to compensate for the lack of talent with the competitive nature of its players.’
