Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from Mundo Deportivo about Everton and Andre Gomes.
It was reported that the midfielder is a priority signing for Everton this summer, with Marco Silva keen to get the deal over the line.
However, it was explained that Barcelona want a good offer, and Marcel Brands hasn’t yet got into serious talks over keeping Gomes at Goodison Park beyond the end of this season.
The other Catalan sport newspaper, Sport, now has an update and it’s intriguing.
They say Gomes is ‘very close’ to a permanent transfer, although it may not be to Everton. The Toffees are the club ‘best placed’ to seal the deal, but they now face competition.
There’s a second unnamed club said to be interested.
Everton are willing to pay €25-30m, according to Sport, and there’s no explanation of what the unnamed side would be willing to part with.
One would suspect this could be a plan to put some pressure on Everton to pay a good fee and seal the deal early, which in turn would allow Barcelona to be sure they have that money for the summer.
