Barcelona failed to sign Neymar in the summer and the Paris Saint-Germain star continues to remains on their radar.
Mundo Deportivo claims the La Liga winners’ leaders will start planning next season’s transfers after Christmas and the Brazil international is expected to be a priority target.
It’s claimed the Catalan club will be attentive about the forward until the end of the season, if he maintains a high-level performance, doesn’t make a ‘fool of himself’ and avoids picking up an injury.
The South American wanted to leave the Ligue 1 winners in the last window and despite begging PSG’s Qatari owners to sanction his transfer, no deal took shape.
However, the situation would be different after this campaign because of a clause in FIFA’s ‘Regulations on the Statute and Transfer of Players’.
This clause is only applicable if a player has completed three years/seasons at a club and has not signed an extension during that period.
Barcelona have calculated Neymar’s asking price after the ‘Protective Period’ and Mundo claims it is set at €180m. They expect to raise part of the funds for Neymar’s transfer by selling Philippe Coutinho (currently on loan at Bayern Munich).
The player wants the transfer and is determined to return to the Camp Nou. Should he join the Spanish champions, the 27-year-old will be paid the same wages he agreed when he last signed an extension at Barcelona in 2017.
