Joel Robles seems to have a good standing among Everton fans for lots of reasons, although few of them seem to relate to what actually happens on football pitches.
With Ronald Koeman kicked out of the club, David Unsworth began making public signs that he’s taking apart the Dutchman’s work at Goodison Park. Of course, it’s as subtle as a brick, and Maarten Stekelenburg saw himself out of the squad in favour of Robles.
That’s how it’s being seen in the Netherlands, despite Stekelenburg not being on the bench for the Arsenal match either. Similar goes for Davy Klaassen, who was also out of the squad for Everton’s loss to Leicester City.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf say it’s ‘a very bad sign’ for both players, and whilst they don’t spit it out, it’s likely at least one, probably Stekelenburg, would look for the exit if the situation continues.
Everton still don’t look any closer to appointing a new manager, and Unsworth is slipping down slightly in the odds race, despite the overtly fan-pleasing plans.
As Unsworth looks up the Dutch for persona non grata, there could well be agents circling to take advantage as Everton’s situation shows no immediate sign of improvement.
Koeman made it very clear that Stekelenburg was his second choice during the summer, and it’s likely Robles wouldn’t have still been at the club had any Spanish sides wanted to turn vague interest into something more concrete.
