Tuesday isn’t a good day for Liverpool.

After the news that Southampton asked the FA to look into the potential tapping up of Virgil Van Dijk, news from Italy has emerged that one of their targets has rejected them.

According to Il Messaggero, who were the first to report the Reds’ interest in the Lazio player, the 22-year-old was seemingly a target for Jürgen Klopp to provide an alternative to Sadio Mané, much like Mohamed Salah is currently, and talks between the two clubs were being reported by the Italian press.

However, it appears the forward rejected the Premier League club’s advances in order to favour a stay in Italy, putting both AC Milan and Inter on standby as he hopes for a move to Juventus.

With one year left on his contract at Lazio and no intention to renew, this summer was the perfect time for a Premier League club to come swooping in, but it seems that Liverpool wasn’t the attractive destination the player was hoping for.

And with Roma refusing to budge on their valuation of Salah, it could be a long transfer window for Jürgen Klopp if things continue this way.
