Drawing West Ham United in the Europa League was a ‘very bad draw’ for Lyon, with David Moyes’ side on that don’t suit the French giants.
That’s according to journalist Walid Acherchour, who believes that the Ligue 1 side have underestimated West Ham ahead of the clash.
The two sides were drawn against each other for the quarter-finals of the competition yesterday, having secured their progression on Thursday night.
West Ham did so in fine fashion courtesy of a 2-0 win over former winners Sevilla, while Lyon progressed courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Porto, which sealed a 2-1 win on aggregate.
The Hammers have been in superb form in the Premier League and the Europa League this season, with them competing in the latter stages of the latter and for a place in the top four when it comes to the former.
But it seems their European opponents are still underestimating them, something Acherchour is keen to warn them about.
“It’s a very bad draw for Olympique Lyonnais,” he told Foot Radio.
“We can say to ourselves that West Ham in Europe is almost nothing, but it is a team that, at home, beat Liverpool, beat Chelsea, took out Manchester City in the English Cup.
“I saw them play against Liverpool recently, and they had three or four chances to equalise. They are a good team, a very athletic team.
“I have the impression that they are not the kind of team that suits OL. I think that a team like Atalanta or Leipzig would have favoured Lyon’s game.
“We saw it against Porto, which allowed players like Faivre or Paqueta to project themselves forward very quickly.”
