The year of 2019 didn’t look very promising for Vincent Janssen. After struggling with serious injuries at Tottenham Hotspur, the striker ended up leaving Europe to join Mexican side Monterrey.
Then things turned out great for him in North America, and he has 10 goals and two assists in 19 appearances for his new club so far.
His great start has been creating ‘Janssenmania’ in Mexico, where, as reported by ABC Notícias this week, babies are being named after the player.
The outlet first reported the birth of Janssen Hannry Álvarez Zamora, son of Francisco Javier Álvarez Franco and Yesennia Elizabeth Zamora Luna, both Monterrey fans.
After the story was published, two other families contacted ABC Notícias to say they’d also named their babies Janssen.
The first one was Gabriel Mijares Andrade, born in August. His mother Claudia Elizabeth Andrade said: “My husband was the one to see how Janssen played. He said: ‘He will be called that. He will be like the ‘Toro’ Janssen.’
“We are both Rayados to death. Hopefully the name helps him. They were surprised, but being Rayados we don’t care.”
Then there was Janssen Hanry Álvarez Zamora, born in November, and finally, Janssen Antonio Medellín Guardiola, born in December.
His father Antonio Medellin said:“Since the player arrived at Rayados I saw him and I liked that name. I’m a big Rayado and I thought about doing it in honour of him. I would like to go to the final and take my son to see my Rayados being champions.”
Tottenham supporters, who always appreciated the Dutchman’s efforts even if he couldn’t find the back of the net often enough, will surely be pleased at how Vincent Janssen is getting on.
