Currently second in the Premier League, Tottenham’s clash against Liverpool at the weekend could be a key fixture in the title race, especially if Chelsea somehow slip up as well.

Playing at White Hart Lane for the league and domestic cups, Spurs have this season started playing their European games at Wembley, which has been loaned to them until their new stadium, currently going by the catchy name of Northumberland Development Project, is finally completed.

As the final details are sorted out ahead of the unveiling of the new stadium for the 2018/19 season, Tottenham could end up playing all of their games at Wembley next season, something Toby Alderweireld is particularly excited by, as he explained to Sport/Foot magazine in Belgium this week. Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 13.32.37

He said: “Yes, it’ll be weird, but we know that it’s just for a brief period, and there’s worse places to play. What awaits us is incredible. [The new stadium] already looks great from the outside, but inside, that will be the best. Just the players’ tunnel… We won’t see the people, but they will see us. It should be fantastic.”

Recent released designs of the new stadium showed some lucky fans will be able to watch Tottenham players in the tunnel via some kind of glass wall in a lounge called “The Tunnel Club”.

With the new stadium in the pipeline, and regular European football, there’s a lot of hope Tottenham will be able to expand as a club, and continue to grow on the past few years of exciting football instilled by Mauricio Pochettino.

As Alderweireld says, fans should be very excited: “It’s great to be a part of such a project.”
