Every year there’s optimism in the air that this time it will be different and then the depression comes. No, Kicker aren’t talking about Leeds United and their promotion attempts, but rather Hamburg and the club’s pattern of failure.

Once again in the Bundesliga relegation zone, Kicker say it’s the HSV ‘autumn depression’. The club repeats the same mistakes constantly, and it leads to the same yearly problems, explains the German magazine.

Seeing Pierre-Michel Lasogga as a saviour way back in 2014 is still seen as a problem, and Kicker say the same mistake has been made with Bobby Wood. HSV continue to pay a ‘lot of money for average’ and build up their wage bill to a point that debt is now becoming a problem.

But Hamburg wouldn’t be Hamburg without the club constantly balancing on the edge of a disaster, and crisis has become part of the HSV DNA.

Leeds United will very much hope Lasogga hasn’t brought the curse with him. The striker started off well at Elland Road, but he’s one of a number of players with an increasing amount of questions marks hovering near him.
