Sunderland forward Jeremain Lens has told the Dutch media he wants to leave the club this summer. The Netherlands international spent last season on loan with Fenerbahce, and the Turkish giants have again been linked with the player.
De Telegraaf have reported on comments the Sunderland attacker made when he was asked about his future.
Lens said he realises he’s still a Sunderland player under contract, but revealed his intentions are to return to Fenerbahce.
“I am still under contract at Sunderland. I would love to go to Fenerbahce and the club has that intention. Now we have to see if that is possible,” said the Sunderland outcast.
With Sunderland’s relegation to the Championship it’s unlikely Lens will be playing for the club next season. The player has also been critical of Sunderland whilst in Turkey, and a transfer to either Fenerbahce or Besiktas could happen in the next window.
Sunderland are looking to sell Lens on a permanent deal, which could give Besiktas the advantage due to their financial situation.
