Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has admitted he hopes Tottenham defender Cuti Romero can join him at the club this summer.
AS have an interview with the Argentine today in which he is asked about the consistent rumours regarding the Tottenham star.
Romero has been named as Atletico’s number one target for the summer transfer window, with Diego Simeone’s side determined to improve their defence ahead of next season.
The Tottenham man is reportedly the one they are eyeing up as they continue to build an Argentine base of players under their Argentine manager.
Several reports from Spain have made it clear that Atletico are pushing ahead with a transfer proposal and there has been an increased confidence from those reports that a deal is practically done, and Tottenham will be unable to resist.
Whether that latter part is true remains to be seen, with all developments dependent on what happens in the Europa League. If Tottenham can win that, they’ll be back in the Champions League and have much more power to keep Romero than they do currently.
Alvarez would love to see the deal happen regardless, though, praising his fellow Argentine and insisting he’d be a great signing.
“I hope so! I hope it happens,” he said.
“He’s a great player. One of the best center-backs in the world, in my opinion. A teammate on the national team and a great person. Such a great addition to the team would be a great help.”
