Henry Onyekuru eyeing a way out of Anderlecht during the January window, and a quick move to Everton, wasn’t entirely surprising.

Anderlecht have had a difficult season, and in mid September Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium that there was something of a ‘street fight’ going on at the club.

Belgian newspaper HLN explained: ‘RSC Anderlecht, the country’s biggest club, has become a street fight – media, fans, trainer, press, even the president is already involved.’

Not long after, Anderlecht changed their manager, and there remains a media glare in Belgium. Onyekuru has probably combined this with Everton’s need for goals, and decided a switch to Goodison Park in January isn’t a bad idea.

A few days ago DH quoted him as saying: “I hope to be able to play there in January. Everton is happy with my start to the season. But we are not in January and all my concentration is in Anderlecht.”

Anderlecht Online report that after the ‘astonishment’ at Onyekuru’s comments, looking at the practicalities makes the Everton switch unlikely. It’s once again the work permit issue which is brought up, with Everton having to go through an appeal process if they want their man back.

However, it’s not impossible, and Everton may look into their chances. If Anderlecht agree, or if they’re forced to by a clause, then it could be worth a try.
