Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia is being targeted by River Plate to boost their squad for the Copa Libertadores.
That’s according to Doble Amarilla, who report that River want to continue making big additions after their recent purchases ‘shook the market’.
The Argentine giants have already signed the likes of Gonzalo Montiel, Martínez Quarta and Matías Rojas and want to keep building.
Marcelo Gallardo ‘does not rest’ and is aiming to add another name to his squad: Buendia. He believes the Aston Villa man can boost their chances of winning the Copa Libertadores.
River Plate have already ‘began the efforts’ to secure what would be a ‘dream’ transfer for them. Buendia has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Argentinian football at this stage. The chance to play in the expanded Club World Cup would help River Plate’s efforts.
He has a contract with Aston Villa that expires in June 2026. They, therefore, could be open to a deal in an attempt to get money back on him. That will be more difficult after this month.
For now, the matter seems to be at the thinking about it stage, but the idea is there and something to keep an eye on for Aston Villa.
