Aston Villa will need to work hard to convince Joao Félix to join the club this summer, as he is currently refusing to listen to offers from clubs outside the Champions League.
That’s according to journalist Pacojo Delgado, who says at this point the player will be remaining at Atlético de Madrid next season.
Félix spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea following an apparent fall out with Atlético manager Diego Simeone that led to his temporary departure from the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Spanish side had hoped the Blues would be convinced into a permanent purchase but that never happened as new manager Mauricio Pochettino ruled it out.
That’s left Atlético and Félix looking for alternative options for a permanent transfer and Aston Villa have been named as a potential destination.
They’re spending big this summer to back Unai Emery, and it was claimed at the beginning of the month that the Spanish boss would love to sign Félix if he can.
That was followed by a claim five days ago that Aston Villa were still working on the move and a very ambitious first purchase for new director of football Monchi.
It seems the latter will have to work hard to make it happen, though, with Pacojo reporting that Félix is ‘vetoing’ moves to certain clubs.
“Joao Félix has vetoed any possible exit to a club that does not play the Champions League,” AS report him saying.
“After Chelsea, second-rank teams from the Premier have knocked on the door, but the Portuguese does not even want to hear about them.
“Atleti wants to resolve the ‘Joao issue’ as soon as possible, although everything indicates that it will be a matter that will go on for a long time in the mattress entity.”
