Aston Villa and West Ham have made ‘some bites’ for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, but there is no indication he will accept a move to the Premier League.
That’s according to La Repubblica, who state that the Argentine striker is ‘refusing’ to terminate his contract at the Italian club this summer.
The Serie A champions are planning a mass overhaul of the squad in this transfer window after replacing manager Maurizio Sarri with club legend Andrea Pirlo.
They have a long list of players they are planning to move on, including Higuain, who has endured a tough time since arriving in a big-money move from Napoli in 2018.
Indeed, Pirlo has confirmed he will leave the club this summer, telling reporters today: “He’s a world-class player, but we’ve decided it’s time for us to go out separate ways.
“All things come to an end. We looked each other in the eyes and decided this was the decision to take.”
Juventus are now trying to find a buyer, and La Repubblica say have been ‘some bites’ from West Ham and Aston Villa in that regard.
The bad news for them, though, is that ‘nothing suggests’ that he will agree to a move back to the Premier League, having spent time half a season on loan at Chelsea in 2019.
That would suggest neither Aston Villa or West Ham will be able to convince him to make the move even if they reach an agreement with Juventus, although the offer of big wages and bonuses could always convince the 32-year-old to change that stance.
