Back in mid June, we covered multiple reports from Portugal which pushed Aston Villa interest in Luiz Júnior.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper plays for Famalicão and he moved to the Liga Portugal club in 2020, initially joining their U23 squad whilst he found his feet and then working his way to the first team.
Last season, he made 35 appearances for the club, with 44 goals conceded and eight clean sheets. The young goalkeeper’s performances caught attention from elsewhere and soon there was talks of a transfer.
The plan at Aston Villa was said to be to take the Brazilian as a back-up to Emiliano Martinez, with him able to learn from the Argentine icon and therefore be an option for the future.
Now A Bola and Marca report he’s edging towards a move to Spain instead. Aston Villa interest is mentioned but it looks like they’ve walked away from the deal, and Villarreal are said to be in very advanced negotiations to get him for €10m.
There’s every chance Luiz Júnior preferred the Villarreal option for a better chance of first team football.
