Aston Villa have engaged in talks for the signing of Barcelona winger Philippe Coutinho, according to multiple reports from Spain.

Several outlets claim the Brazilian could now be joining Steven Gerrard, with whom he spent a few years at Liverpool.

One of the stories comes from Cadena Cope. They say the clubs are currently negotiating the move, as sources involved in the talks confirm that a deal until June is being worked on.

Another one who reports it is journalist Gerard Romero. He says there’s a ‘call’ from Gerrard for Coutinho to join him at Aston Villa. He says the ‘operation exit’ for the player at Barcelona is ‘on’.

In Catalan, journalist Sara Escriu brings her take as well. She says Aston Villa and Barça are ‘finishing the last fringes’ for the move, and the transfer should be made official ‘in the next few hours or days’.

It’s also claimed that Coutinho’s move would allow the Camp Nou side to register Ferran Torres, who’s just arrived from Manchester City.

Philippe Coutinho has been linked to several Premier League clubs since his departure from Liverpool in 2018, and from all those rumours, this one about Villa sounds by far as the strongest one.
