Sparta Rotterdam’s Abdou Harroui has emerged as a transfer target for Aston Villa, as per TuttoMercatoWeb.

The midfielder, who came up through the ranks of the Dutch club’s youth system, has less than a year left on his contract and is expected to leave his current employer.

It’s claimed the 23-year-old is ‘ready to leave’ Sparta Rotterdam, so much so that he won’t be part of the squad for the league clash against Heracles Almelo on Saturday.

TMW’s headline states ‘Aston Villa, raid for Harroui’, and within the report, it’s said that Dean Smith’s side are ‘strong on the player’.

His future could be decided soon and ‘there may be significant news over the weekend’. There’s no further details mentioned, including the fee needed to complete Harroui’s signing.

TWM’s claims come less than 24 hours after Algemeen Dagblad stated Sparta Rotterdam have ‘reached an agreement’ with an unknown foreign club. However, Harroui has to find an agreement with the unnamed side and undergo medical tests to seal a move.

AD say Harroui’s sale should see Sparta Rotterdam fetch a fee between €3m and €4m, and these figures shouldn’t be an issue for Villa.
