Aston Villa were one of the clubs who made approaches for Lille star Jonathan David in the summer window, according to FcInterNews.
The striker has less than a year left on his deal and his long-term future still needs to be clarified.
The 24-year-old said he’s open to making a switch to the Premier League. At the same time, he has left the door open to move to another league.
The website relays his quotes from earlier this month and focuses on Inter Milan’s interest in the Aston Villa target. The Nerazzurri sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has circled his name in red.
Aston Villa, Napoli, AC Milan and Atlético Madrid had contacted David in the last window. The latter three decided to bet on other targets and this may leave Inter with an easy route to sign him next summer.
With regards to the English club, it’s claimed Unai Emery admires the frontman. However, the Villans didn’t submit an offer.
Aston Villa haven’t given up on the Canada international. The report claims Emery’s side and Juventus are ‘in the running’, and they could compete with Inter for his signature. The Old Lady would consider a move for David if Dušan Vlahović were to move elsewhere.
In short, Aston Villa are in contention to sign David on a free transfer next summer.
